|   | | May 8 - Riding on the wave of success of interactive television gaming around
the world today, NetPlay TV plc has announced the launch of a
new live blackjack product that is sure to take the world by storm.
The company originally thought that it would purchase a new channel from Sky
Broadcasting in order to run the blackjack product, however needed to do a
rethink when Sky announced that it would not be selling any more channels.
Eventually, NetPlay decided to purchase an existing channel and opted
for acquiring channel 848 from Hollywood TV. The price paid for the new channel
is 475,000 GBP and will be paid out in the form of 2,375,000 new company shares
at a rate of 20 p each.
The new channel will operate alongside NetPlay's successful channel 847 which
broadcasts live roulette and is considered a highly popular gaming option for UK
players. This is the first time that a live blackjack channel is being launched
in the country.
The chairman and chief executive of NetPlay said about the new venture: "This is
another key milestone in the evolution of our business. Blackjack is the most
popular game in traditional casinos and as such it was a natural progression for
us to launch a "live" TV version of this popular game. Have a dedicated channel
next door to our "Live Roulette" channel on Sky 847 makes perfect sense,
allowing our customers to easily flick between channels depending on which game
they want to play. Adding new Sky channels has, over recent months, following
Sky's decision not to allow any new channels to be launched, become extremely
difficult. The acquisition of Sky Channel 848 strengthens our position as the
leader in 'Live' interactive gaming even further."
The new blackjack product is expected to be launched by the end of May.
